Guidance on funding
Funding of Micah Challenge is voluntary and optional. Micah Challenge wants to be widely inclusive and representative of all Christian groups in the UK and does not want to create a monetary barrier to joining. Its income ensures the effective work of the coalition and will sustain its work over time.
Our guidance on funding contributions for churches and organisations is as follows: -
- Funding contributions are voluntary and are not a prerequisite to joining.
- Don’t give because you feel you ought to, give because you want to.
- As a guideline, consider £1 per member or even up to 0.7% of your income
It is worth noting that: -
- 30% of all fee income will be given to international Micah Challenge campaigns in other countries, especially in the Global South, to sustain their work.
- We recognise that many churches and organisations already support individuals and agencies working in this field. We do not want your contribution to Micah challenge to reduce your funding support to them. For this reason, again, we leave the decision about your contribution up to you so that it might consider your already important giving.
- The idea behind setting the figure of 0.7% of total income as a level of funding is that in 1970 donor countries such as the United Kingdom promised to spend 0.7% of Gross National Income on development assistance. The United Kingdom has now finally set a timetable to achieve this by 2013, 43 years later. We want to demonstrate to our government that we recognise this is no small contribution but that we are willing to make this commitment ourselves because we believe it is so important.
- Financial contribution is not a prerequisite to joining the campaign. Even if you cannot pay the contribution, don’t let it stop you from signing up. The amount you contribute to the work of Micah Challenge is at your discretion.
