A Micah Champion

This rather grand title is what might otherwise be described as the servant leader within your organisation.

Often it is not the official leader of the organisation that will be encouraging participation and engagement with the activities and aims of Micah Challenge (though they would normally positively endorse and support it). Instead it is the person(s) who feels a conviction/passion/duty to help others understand more about the issues and become part of the solution who takes on the role of Micah Champion.

It is not necessary for the organisation to be a member of the Micah Challenge coalition to have a Micah Champion. Normally, it is the work of the champion in convincing and educating others that results in the organisation joining Micah Challenge.

The Micah Champion is ready to say that they:

Will be the point of contact between Micah Challenge and their organisation
Will ensure that the key messages from Micah Challenge are transmitted appropriately and effectively throughout their organisation
Personally support the vision, aims and values of Micah Challenge
Have personally signed the Micah Call (this is the simplest way to register as a Micah Champion)

What this means for you

Having expressed your willingness to be a Micah Champion and providing contact details, then Micah Challenge UK will be able to send useful resources, such as the DVDs and toolkits as well as guidance notes, directly to your contact address.

We would hope that you would then ensure the materials are used as effectively as possible, for example by showing the DVD in a Sunday service. We would also hope that you would galvanise a team from within your organisation to participate in the current campaign or call-to-action – for example organising a minibus to take people to the Blow the Whistle rally.

You may receive additional email correspondence that will help you in your role as an activist – e.g. links to resources that explain how other churches have gone about setting up “Global Action” groups.

How might you recognise yourself as a Micah Champion?

You have a desire for others to know about the issues and injustice of global poverty and want to help them get involved
You may not have direct access to the leadership of the organisation but you will make sure that the message gets through to gain (over time) their endorsement
You are ready to motivate others to take action, possibly by standing up and speaking, possibly by writing a convincing message, possibly by leading by example and doing something that others want to emulate.
