Your Call is a Woman to Woman campaign. We want to call for conflict-free mobile phones and increase awareness of the injustice being suffered by women in the Congo.
Theresa Malila
Watch Theresa's story. Theresa began her ministry with nothing more than a small jar of oil. She would walk to communities on the outskirts of Lilongwe and began to pray for those who were critically ill. Her priority was always to work through the local church and the traditional authorities. Theresa herself is a chief which has given her the ability and authority to speak to and be accepted by chiefs.
After three years churches began partnering with her and providing support.
Everyone who meets Theresa is challenged and inspired by her and what God has laid on her heart. She is a formidable woman and suffers no nonsense. [Read More]
Sarah's Phone Fast
Watch how Sarah and her friends got on in an awareness raising phone fast for Congo's women. When 18-year-old Sarah Pellew did some work experience with us after graduating from high school, she had never heard of the mineral coltan, nor the global links between sexual violence in the DRC, the mining of coltan, and our mobile phones. However, as she researched the issues, she decided that she wanted to speak out against the injustices against the women and girls she was learning about, as well as increase awareness among her friends. This 2011 video traces the connection between our mobiles/cell phones, the minerals inside them and the terrible violence in the Congo. Violence that has killed 5 million people in a generation and that sees a woman raped every 48 seconds.
The film follows Frank, a Danish journalist, as he traces the terrible violence associated with his beloved Nokia phone. There is lots of amazing footage of mines in the Congo, the fighters and miners, and the tension of a place at the heart of darkness.
