MDG Collage
There is a lot about the world that we would like to change; famine, war, pollution etc. However, we can also act to make those changes, through creativity, prayer and campaigning. Create a picture of the world as you would like to see it. Find out how the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) can help to make that happen.
This is a creative idea for children and young people that could work in a school or church setting. Here’s how it works:
-
Make two posters. One will contain all the things you wish to change in the world, and one will be of the world as you would like to see it. Go through some magazines and newspapers and try and find photos or articles of things you want to change. Cut them out and paste them onto a big piece of paper or card. Have pictures of people of all ages and races if possible.
-
Talk about the most important things in life and find out about the MDGs. Discuss how they can help transform the world, using the collages as a helpful illustration.
-
You may want to use the collages as a prompt to prayer. See the [link] childrens prayer guide for inspiration.
-
Display the posters somewhere that lots of people can see. Have a short explanation of each of the MDGs. [link [Click here for a summary] http://www.micahchallenge.org/be-informed/mdgs]
-
Invite your politician to come and look at the displays and talk with her/him about what they can do to make the world more like the poster.
We think this will create a lot of fun (and maybe some mess!) but our hope is that the young Picassos will learn how they can change the world and teach ourselves and our leaders in the process.
Our thanks goes to Micah Challenge Portugal who came up with this idea.
