Positive, prayerful advocacy provides the momentum necessary to get important issues on the table and make the changes we so desperately require. " John McKay, Canadian politician

Micah 2010 was an opportunity to encourage our leaders to remember their promise to bring half a billion people out of extreme poverty in our generation.

Politicians needed to hear that we care and that we will hold them accountable. They cannot dismiss the Millennium Development Goals agreed in 2000 as "too hard" and we cannot let the promise fail because of apathy or corruption.

logo_micah2010_speakThe Big Hand-over of 10 million handprints reminded our leaders that we had five years remaining to meet our promise.

The idea was for a church to invite their local politician to an event and present the handprints. Some contained a simple message, "Remember the poor" - some were trained in the messages of the national campaign. The more specific the message, the more impact it had.

Our target was at least 1,000 meetings with political leaders in 20 countries.
