WITH  58 DAYS TO GO BEFORE THE US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, CHRISTIAN CAMPAIGNERS HAVE LAUNCHED A CAMPAIGN BASED ON ISAIAH 58 TO REMIND PRESIDENT OBAMA AND GOVERNOR ROMNEY TO REMEMBER THE WORLD'S POOR.
Micah Challenge want to ensure that both President Obama and Governor Romney are committed to protecting poverty focused development aid - a small portion of foreign aid that helps millions out of extreme poverty.
Evangelicals from all across the nation are signing a declaration proclaiming their personal commitment to end extreme poverty, urging the candidates to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with their God - taken from the scripture Micah 6:8.
Micah Challenge is a global Christian campaign mobilizing millions of Christians to end extreme poverty by speaking out against injustice, praying passionately for an end to poverty, and committing to lifestyles of justice.
Jason Alfonse Fileta, Director of Micah Challenge USA, said: "Millions of people are alive today because President Bush followed his convictions and launched the Presidents Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR).
"Our next president must share this commitment to helping people in extreme poverty - lives are depending on it.  At a time where spending must be cut, this is a portion of the budget we are not wiling to part with.
"As Christian campaigners, the Bible is not only our inspiration but our handbook as well. We don’t read “rules for radicals” - we read “Exodus and Isaiah”. We feel that with 58 days to go before the election, Isaiah 58 is a great place to start."
There are now just three years to go before the 2015 deadline for world governments to hit the Millennium Development Goals on poverty that were set in 2000.
